Two different calendars sit above, and which one applies to your child depends on how they are entered. The three Set dates are the school route: the school picks one set, and the child sits the paper with the class. The two slot dates are the individual online route a family can take without the school — different dates entirely, and Indian Talent Olympiad publishes them with the caveat that they are tentative and that "the final exam schedule will be updated 20 days prior". Once a set or slot is selected it cannot be changed. Indian Talent Olympiad publishes one schedule per paper covering Classes 1 to 12, so these are the same five dates a Class 6 child sits — the paper changes, the calendar does not.
Registration: Registration closes on published, fixed dates rather than a rolling window. Through the school: Set A closes 31 August 2026, Set B closes 10 October 2026, Set C closes 10 November 2026. The school collects ₹175 per student per subject, of which ₹150 is remitted to ITO and ₹25 is retained for organising costs. Directly, without the school: individual online registration for Classes 1 to 10 closes 30 October 2026 for slot 1, at ₹500 per subject. Four bodies register a family without the school — CREST, Unified Council for its online sittings, this one, and Humming Bird — and for Class 7 maths all four are open to you, so the direct route here is a genuine choice rather than a last resort. The 31 August cutoff is the school route and it is the earliest deadline of the year across every paper we cover; the individual route's 30 October is a separate, later clock and should not be read as softening it.
The deadline is set by your school, not by you
Most parents find the exam date and assume they have until then. The registration window closes long before it, and for some papers it has already started closing. Here is how it actually works.
- Your school registers your child and your school picks which of the 2–3 dates the class sits. The family does not choose.
- For SOF papers, registrations must reach SOF exactly 30 days before that chosen date — and once the school has chosen, the date cannot be changed.
- Most bodies register through the school. Four do not have to: CREST (online, no published cutoff), Unified Council — directly for NSTSE itself at ₹350 against ₹150 through a school, and on three online sittings, NSTSE-Online, UIMO-Online and UIEO-Online, at ₹354 each including GST — Indian Talent Olympiad on its individual online route (its own later dates — Slot 1 closes 30 October), and Humming Bird (online, ₹150 a subject, no published cutoff — its two dates are picked as you register). CREST is the simplest of the four.

How the ITO-M paper is structured

The 65 minutes above is the school route. Indian Talent Olympiad gives the individual online route 45 minutes for the same 50 questions — both figures are the body's own, in identically worded rows on its two schedule pages, and neither page mentions the other. If you are registering your child directly rather than through the school, plan for 54 seconds a question instead of 78.
Every question is worth one mark, including the five Higher Order Thinking questions — unlike SOF and CREST, ITO does not weight its harder section. That makes the 35-question Section 1 exactly 70% of the paper. Indian Talent Olympiad does not publish a current-class versus previous-class split for any of its papers, so unlike SOF's stated 60/40 there is no published proportion of Class 6 material to plan around here. We say that rather than borrowing SOF's figure, which would be a fabricated statistic on a page whose whole value is being right about what the body says.

Indian Talent Olympiad publishes twelve Class 7 maths topics: Number System, Fractions & Decimals, Linear Equation in One Variable, Algebraic Expression, Comparing Quantities, Exponents and Power, Ratio & Proportion, Practical Geometry & Lines and Angles, The Triangle & Its Properties, Mensuration, Data Handling and Logical Reasoning. Ten of the twelve land on a chapter of the 2026-27 Ganita Prakash, as the table above shows. Two do not, and they are two different stories rather than one — which is the part worth reading. Mensuration has no Class 7 chapter at all: perimeter and area is Class 6's chapter 6, and area returns as a Class 8 chapter. Your child met it a year ago and will meet it again next year, and in between ITO asks about it. That one is covered in our own Class 7 maths practice — it is the single entry in the curator taxonomy's Extra Topics bucket for Grade 7, "Perimeter & Area Extensions", and Indian Talent Olympiad is named on it. Exponents and Power is the one to actually plan for. It is not in the Class 7 book and it is not in our Class 7 practice either: searched across every field of the Grade 6, 7 and 8 sheets, it is Class 8 material — the Power Play chapter, with laws of exponents, negative exponents and standard form. So a Class 7 child sitting this paper can be asked next year's chapter, and neither the school book nor our Class 7 material will reach it before December. Better known in August than in the hall. The twelfth topic, Logical Reasoning, is not a maths chapter anywhere: it is the separate ten-question Section 2, and for Class 7 ITO names fifteen topics inside it — series completion and inserting the missing character, alpha-numeric sequence, analogy and classification, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, logical Venn diagrams, puzzles, mathematical operations, analytical reasoning, mirror and water images, embedded figures and figure formation, figure matrices, ranking, and construction of squares. That last one is the only difference from the Class 6 list, which ends in cubes and dice instead. The chapter mapping above is ours, not ITO's: the body publishes topic names with no map to the new book.
